BELGIUM’S WINTER WONDERLANDS

Even though it does not snow that frequently in Belgium, Winter Wonderland does exist in the land of beer, chocolate, and fries. This year we have excellent snowfall in Belgium (in January). There are a lot of places with snow at the moment in Belgium. This means you can find snow everywhere in the Ardennes above 400-500 m. Snowfall in these lands turns these spectacular landscapes into a dreamy Winter Wonderland.

BARAQUE MICHEL

Baraque Michel is one of the most prominent turning points for a winter walk in the Ardennes. Baraque Michel, located 675 metres above sea level in the Hautes Fagnes in the heart of the High Fens, procures opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowshoe hiking in times of adequate snow. So you may select your day carefully. On a bright Sunday after a sprinkling of snow, you might find the car park full and your intention of a relaxed stroll in solitude becomes a restrained dream. However, at other times you may find yourself completely isolated. Hikers will also discover what they are looking for on the hiking trails especially cleared for this purpose. At an altitude of 674m, the station is certainly one of the spots in Belgium where there is the most snow.

ANLIER FOREST

Just deeper into the Ardennes, between Martelange and Habay-la-Neuve in the province of Luxemburg, is the enormous 7000-hectare Anlier Forest, one of the largest woodlands in the country. Reveal Anlier’s landscape in winters, magnificent snowy inclines perfect for cross-country skiing or hikes through the Rulles Forest.

The Rulles forest’s cross-country ski slope is at 480 m altitude. They run through a hilly countryside before penetrating the wooded area. The forest is so huge that many parts of it are nearly unexplored. The difficulty level is assumed to be average. Various walkways have been developed for hike enthusiasts. There is also the chance to rent equipment on site.

Snow in the Anlier forest is something new to experience.

SAINT-HUBERT

Saint-Hubert is famous for your encounters with deer. However, did you know that it is also a perfect paradise for all sorts of snow sports and winter adventures? Go for an unforgettable experience in the middle of nature in the Grande Forêt de Saint-Hubert d’Ardenne in Wallonia, Belgium! On this hiking voyage, you will cross the incredible forest of Saint-Hubert and uncover one of the most attractive areas in Belgium. In this remarkable location, you will find breathtaking points, such as ravines, rivers and hills, as well as lovely animals. Here you can do numerous sports, such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or tobogganing. The list isn’t limited, you can yet try out something more surprising! Do you know about ski joëring? This activity allows you to ski while being pulled by a draft horse. You can also watch snow kite demonstrations, which is like kitesurfing on the snow. HIGH FENS

Without any doubt, the High Fens are among the most unspoiled terrains in the Eifel and Ardennes region. They are one of Europe’s last high quays. The High Fens have an average of 43 days of snow per year. Most feasibly you’ll find the largest amount of snow. Hiking in this nature reserve is only permitted on the competent and inscribed paths. The High Fens offer cross-country skiing beginning from the Signal De Botrange. From there, you can take a trail of 5, 6, or 7 km. MONT-LA-SOIE

For snow lovers and enthusiastic hikers, Mont-Le-Soie is irresistible. In the villages of the Belgian Eifel and around the “Hohe Venn” there are countless horse owners who pursue their nature-loving hobby with joy and love for their leisure partner horse.

Some of these horse lovers have formed a group of trail riding stations to offer local and foreign riders and carriage drivers the opportunity to explore the varied landscape of Belgium on horseback. In this region of Vielsalm, you will discover the European Centre of the Horse.

Commencing from this equestrian centre, there are 6 marked horseback routes, organized to rejoice all year. In all 160 km of the significant route in a completely gorgeous locality in summer and winter is a blessing. For some real moments of happiness for you and your horse!

WANNE

Situated on the heights of Trois-Ponts, Val De Wanne is an outstanding spot. A perfect hiking path starts from the parking lot in Jungholz. The path runs beautifully through the forest and across clearings, which always gives a new experience. Ancestral on the heights of Trois-Ponts, the Val de Wanne is an activity center that will fascinate both young and old. In addition to showing a stunning panoramic view of the region, this entertainment center underlines the lengthiest alpine ski gradient in Belgium, with 1 km of slides.  You can furthermore practice cross-country skiing on a 3 km or 8 km course. If you are not an enthusiast of skiing, though you like thrills, the toboggan dash will excite you. It is feasible to swoop in a chef-d’oeuvre sled, a giant buoy ring, and even a snow scooter. A perfect winter land of Belgium.
