I call it a magical village or rather a town with picture-perfect frames. If you ever plan any kind of photoshoot, especially a pre-wedding shoot then this is the place. When I visited Giethoorn village for the first time it directly connected me to my storybooks of Fairytales. I have visited this town almost more than 7 to 8 times till now, but it’s never enough. Whoever visits me, it is mandatory to visit Giethoorn to take pictures in this town.
Whenever I have guests, we always visit Giethoorn and feel the same “Magical”. I am sure after seeing some pictures here even you will feel so. This town is also known as “Little Venice” or ” The Venice of Netherlands“. Giethoorn consists of only canals and no roads and people staying here have their own small islands so you can imagine how beautiful it would be.
Giethoorn Location
Located in National Park Weerribben-Wieden, Giethoorn is a picturesque village in Overijssel with numerous thatched farms built on small peat islands connected internally by small bridges. The thing that amazes me more is that the town has around 180 small wooden bridges.
Address to Reach the Town: Binnenpad 14, 8355 BP Giethoorn, Netherlands
Why “Giethoorn” is The Name of The village
There was a group of fugitives or refugees who found this village around 1230. They were from the Mediterranean region. When they arrived there, they first noticed a large mass of goat horns, that had been left out there due to heavy floods earlier. Due to this, the group named the village “Giethoorn” which means “Goat Horns”.Giethoorn Population
The population today is less than 3000 people in the village and most of them have their own small islands which are connected by small wooden bridges.
A Day Tour in the Magical town
Normally people visit it for a day but I would prefer to go and stay for a night to see the magical sunrise in this beautiful village. We can imagine how beautiful the sun rays would look in the canals of Giethoorn.
