Go back in time and find out the ruins of the prominent feudal castle which faces the alluring little town of La Roche-en-Ardenne. Built-in the 11th century, Castle Féodal is now a great middle age castle ruins. It looks exceptionally a remarkable floodlit on a misty night when glimpsed from the Hotton road. Once you enter you will receive a paper with an explanation of different areas within the castle to explain what it used to be and when it might have been constructed. At certain times of the year, several activities take place inside the castle such as archery and crafts, falconry shows and many more. Around nightfall, if you’re daring enough then you may encounter the ghost of Countess Berthe de La Roche roaming over the ruins of the castle, at the very location of her death. The setting renders for pleasant, steep strolls and panoramic views. A picture-perfect place.
Musée de la Bataille des Ardennes is a very good and interesting museum.
They have a lot of items from WW2, some restored and some found in the ground. It displays many waxwork scenes, maps and the odd video provides a competent. Most text is translated into English or Dutch as well. If you love weapons they also have a small weapons room with most known WW2 weapons from Germany, US and UK. It has a great display on how war encompassed the region with many pictures when 114 villagers succumbed and 90% of La Roche’s buildings were demolished. In all, it is highly recommended if you are interested in world war II.
Parc à Gibier is a 10 ha park found in the heart of nature proposes you the opportunity to examine the inhabitants of forests as well as their close relatives on the farm. It’s around 2km northeast of La Roche.
It is particularly of several Ardennes animal parks that are designed to introduce children to local wildlife, notably deer, wolves and wild boars. You can stop by the pets of the mini farm and take the time to admire this natural space on the terrace of the tavern confronting the playground.
In the evening come and listen to the stag blast and visit the park at dusk. You and your children will surely enjoy this place.
The Ardenne enjoys amazing natural sites, the lake of Nisrasmont is just a perfect example. Superb place for walking, hiking routes; long and short, and water fun. Fed by the Ourthe, it offers the perfect place to reconnect with nature along with fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing. Make sure to visit the dam too. All around the dam, all over the circuit in summer, where people hang out on the banks. It also has a covered area with tables and benches for picnics and BBQs
A 14 km walk around the lake, challenging but with stunning viewpoints. You will surely enjoy this place.
When the atmosphere and gastronomy of the Alps are exported to the Rochoise city, it gives a place where you will escape through the flavours and the decor. It serves Lupulus beer on draught and good coffee. Relax on a big open terrace while staring up at La Roche’s castle across the river and snacking on pancakes, bagels and burgers. During the Christmas holidays, space is taken up by a wooden Savoie-style cabin where you can order fondues, raclettes and tartiflette. Also, occasional concerts are hosted. You will have a perfect Belgian taste in Le Quai Son. And also to mention that this is facing towards the river.
