- Association Hermione La Fayette
A great reason to visit Rochefort is Hermione La Fayette. Hermione is nothing else than a piece of art, it is authentically rebuilt from scratch, step by step, a ship originally built in the 1700s. This boat possesses barrels disarms. However it is equipped with ultra sophisticated electronic security radio and radar sonnar whose equipment is hidden behind woodwork in order to keep the authenticity of the boat. Now,
Hermione is a floating “museum” PLUS they created another (skeleton) ship with masts and rigging to climb and explore, if the heights dont terrify you than enjoy it at fullest. Thanks to Rochefort for reviving the history through this glorious ship and letting the visitors to enjoy it. A must see in this part of France.
Like many of Rochefort’s attractions the venue is outstanding, and this one is the neoclassical southwest pavilion of the naval hospital. Once the tour begins it’s captivating!
the whole history and chronological traces of naval medicine. All mastered with excellence by the guide, who captivates us with thier knowledge & passion. A tour filled with amazing stories and surprising anecdotes. The library is EXTRAORDINARY! A sublime library that transports us into the past generations of medicine and the natural sciences. The top floor of the museum is based on anatomy and surgical instruments. What has a lot more to me is the library. The place unfortunately suffers from the passage of time and looks sad, We hope that this place will be able to continue to offer its collections in this format. The Incredible place which is a must visit.

A place to have a deep spiritual reflection. Chevetogne Abbey, also known as the Monastery of the Holy Cross. Its important place of embracing both religions. The Church holds its liturgies in Greek and Russian, while the Catholic holds it in Latin. It’s the most important connection between two religions. Every Sunday, two church groups pray together. An old country castle in the middle of a small forest. A really spiritual place!
Rochefort-MartrouTransporter Bridge a worth visiting experience, the piece of architecture is amazingly built and maintained. This sophisticated transporter bridge has left the trail giving a heads off to the architecture.
A real accomplishment of 19th-century design and engineering, this 66-metre-high steel behemoth spans the Charente a short way downriver from the dockyards. The bridge was replaced by a newer version in the 60s, and then made obsolete by a road crossing, but since the 1980s it has been restored to working order and has become a cherished part of the skyline.
Unmissable place to understand and feel the atmosphere of the marsh.
