When we think of tulip fields the only answer that appears in our mind is the Netherlands. Millions of visitors flock to the Netherlands each spring to take in the magnificence of the tulips fields.

But guess again!

We also have gorgeous tulip fields right here in Belgium that is free to stop by! 

Most have no idea that further south, Belgium is a garden lover’s paradise.

Besides tulip fields, there are a lot of other wonderful places to see Spring in Belgium and if you’re into photography you’ll love these hidden gems in Belgium!

The Best Place to see Tulips in Belgium

The beginning of Spring means that tulip season is right around the corner. Every year from mid-April until the commencement of May the tulip fields burst out in all of their vibrant colours and every year thousands of folks from all over the world come to The Netherlands to see this sensation. It’s a lovely lookout and only around a 20-minute drive to see the extensively beautiful tulip fields for yourself! And the best part? These tulip fields in Belgium aren’t a tourist attraction. They are perceived by the locals who live in that area and during tulip season they go for a walk in the neighbourhood or grab their bicycle.

Best places to visit 

Groot-Bijgaarden Castle and Gardens

The Groot-Bijgaarden is a must-see for tulip and spring bulb enthusiasts. The grounds of this castle are open to the public for a month in the spring. As well as the extraordinary castle grounds, there are also indoor displays by local growers. This year the garden will accentuate more bulbs than ever, with 400 varieties of tulips, 35 types of hyacinth, 60 varieties of narcissus and  60 other bulb varieties. The Garden is open this year from 6 April until 6 May.

FLORALIA BRUSSELS

In addition to the tulip fields, Belgium has had a large tulip exhibition since 2004. It takes place in April in the gardens of Groot-Bijgaarden Castle, which is only 10 minutes by train from Brussels North station. Spread over 14 hectares, the exhibition has more than a million different bulbs, including tulips, daffodils and hyacinths. A must-see if you are in Belgium during the month of April.

Vredehof Tulip Garden

While definitely not as large as the Keukenhof Bulb Gardens in Lisse, The Netherlands, The Vredehof is no less outstanding. This garden, in Kessel, was initiated by one man, Fernand Geyselings, when he retired in 1987, as a tribute to his late wife. Geyselings planted over 200,000 different bulbs by himself. There are 200 several varieties of tulip and 185 other spring blooms, from daffodils to hyacinths. There are also a number of flowering trees and garden decorations

Staying near the tulip fields

The most gorgeous times to capture the tulips are sunrise and sunset so why not stay in Antwerp so you can appreciate these outstanding moments to the fullest!
