Veurne is a city in northwestern Belgium, near the French border.

It was founded about 870 by Baldwin I Iron-Arm, first ruler of Flanders. It has a charming market town just 7km inland by road and rail from De Panne.

While you are in Veurne, don’t forget to visit the Castle Beauvoorde.

Castle Beauvoorde is  a hidden pearl of the Westhoek! In an atmospheric and poetic corner of Veurne, you’ll discover this exceptionally charming building. Castle is a small romantic place surrounded by a moat, an old arrangement, left as it is since the death of the last owner at the beginning of the 20th century. A pleasant walk possible in the shaded park, just walking around the park takes you to a different universe. Free audio-guide is also available in a few languages with your ticket. The audio tour gives you just enough information and also allows you to get more if you want.There are also activities organized for kids,Treasure hunt is organised throughout the castle and in the park that surrounds it. Riddles to solve, clues to find and everything you need to motivate children. It is a very nice, cozy, quiet, picturesque place which is highly recommended.

If you wanna know, how our grandparents makes bread, speculaties, chocolate and ice cream, you should definitely visit Bakkerijmuseum. It is a lovely place to visit. It’s a real gem to find, just off the main route there is a beautiful building with a nice collection of things from the baker’s world. It’s been baking since the early 1300s and still makes and bakes bread today. You will discovere unusual objects, you will know when bread tasted like bread and not a baked air. They share the story the life in a bakery in different centuries. The tales of the bakers, the speculaas, the sugar preparation, the cakes, from the preparation to the sale and delivery. The cafeteria stocks lots of homemade and local produce and is not too expensive. You can go for a drink on the terrace without visiting the museum. For the children there is a playground and for adults a delicious piece of Veurn meringue cake under the parasol.Highly recommended way of spending a morning or afternoon.

Sint-Walburgakerk church is a place of silence and reflection, Veurne’s main church is the delicately spired St-Walburgakerk, a spacious, heavily buttressed affair containing much-revered relics. The skull of St-Walburga is contained in a reliquary facing the entrance. A wooden fragment that was supposedly once part of Jesus’ original cross is not displayed, but the story of its arrival here is the subject of local legends. A Gothic church with ambulatory and extraordinary organ in a wonderful city on the West Coast. Beautiful, well-kept church building. Only for this cathedral-looking church a trip from the west coast worthwhile!

If you want to taste the taste of our glorious beer past, you should visit the Mout- & Brouwhuis de Snoek.

This is historical heritage a unique combination of a historic malting house with brewer  house, immediately brings the visitor 100 years back in time. Located on a car route through the Westhoek, the only intact brewery and malt house from the nineteenth century. Museum where all steps of the construction process are explained in an educational manner. The visitor is immersed in boiling copper brewing kettles, steaming stirring vessels and fermenting jibe vessels. Enjoy an authentic gas engine, an old beer wagon and there is also a room with the bear only from the west Flanders.

The visit ends in the museum inn where the visitor can choose from more than 130 regional beers!

They have a lot of beers that are not so well known by most people, but certainly taste it worth. They have their own beer, a very sympathetic and authentic place. Worth a detour.

After admiring all the worthwhile places in Veurne you can have your gala time and children could delightfully enjoy their play time in Hoeve Paepehof Kinderboerderij EEtkafee. It’s an Ideal trip with children they can have fun in the great playground. Everything is perfect for distracting children. For adults it is a super quiet and pleasant little place in good weather. You can watch the animals and relax afterwards on their terrace. The owners and staff are so friendly! Even when busy, they make time to talk to people and try to make sure everything is okay. The only downside is a limited range of vegetarian products, of which nothing is 100% vegetable except for the soy cornetto. You can  like to come back here again.

These days Veurne is one of the more popular day-trip destinations in West Flanders, one of the best-preserved town squares in Belgium.
