ZUTENDAAL-Add A Zest​ !

Zutendaal is another incredible province of Belgium. If you wish for a superb break and stroll in nature or have a rail ride then it is a perfect place for you to enjoy your weekends.

Whether you love hiking or cycling, Zutendaal have everything you need.

National Park Hoge Kempen is an amazing nature park. It serves everything you need for your family weekend. A place  where nature is in all its glory! Everyone is welcome to relax here. It is a  unique nature reserve where more than 5700 HCs of forest and heathland are managed and protected. It holds extensive pine forests alternate with purple flowering heathland, large ponds and sand extraction and high peaks offer great views. Moreover, numerous rare and special animals live in this natural setting. Here you can do hiking, biking  or just revelling in all beauty.

It’s a beautiful park with many walking routes! It has great walking tracks that are clearly labelled and excellent detailed walking maps that complement these tracks. you can also have an adventurous horse riding or sit in horse cart here, 140 km of track dedicated to horse-riding.

The park offers more than 220 km of hiking routes. No fewer than 51 loop-shaped walks of 3 km to 14 km take you along the most beautiful spots in and around the Hoge Kempen National Park. You can even have a night stay here. They offers an updated travel guide which is full of inspiration and information you can analyse the guide, see the offers  and enjoy your trip to kempen at its fullest. Impressed? Witherenpastorie is an incredible in Z. The Zutendaal rectory is located in the center of the village. It is a beautiful building, surrounded by an orderly garden.

The story of the starts in 1304. Today, the abbey has the right to appoint pastors and to collect tithes. The current building dates from 1783 and was designed by the Maastricht architect. The beautiful interior of the building is in Louis XV and Louis XIV style from the eighteenth century. The entrance gate was equipped with a drawbridge at the time. The rectory was used for some time as a rest home for convalescent monks. In 1982 the was protected as a monument. The canals were restored during the restoration of the in the 1990s. Today it stands proudly in Z.

The Munsterbos lies on the border of the poor Kempen and the fertile Haspengouw. It is a perfect place for youth and for children to enjoy. Stroll through the lanes and past picturesque chapels. Forest, ponds, or grassland: you will find it all in Bilzen. Acid and light-rich old oak forests, oak-birch forests, and swamp forests. Variety is an asset here. A perfect place for the picnic with your family and friends. It has a nice walking area with lots of interesting fauna and flora. A park with very varied landscapes. There is a swamp area with a plank walkway and a kind of desert area on top of a sprayed-on mountain. There are also many lakes and streams to admire. There are plenty of activities to do for youth and for children. You really don’t need to go far to enjoy nature.

Kolenspoor is an adventurous rail museum. This mini train connects all the dots of zutendaal you can have a fun ride with your children with amazing views and history.

The mini trains are a must. All the  volunteers do their best to make it a fun and informative ride for young and old. They have the necessary portion of humor and knowledge of the area. Priorly, from this path the coal was transported through the canals. Today along with the rail routes there is also a biking path for the enthusiastic bikers. The green walk next to it is really worth doing with kids. The best part is of course the looping. It’s great for every age. Very cozy, the lookout tower to climb is certainly worthwhile and completely free.  Highly recommended.
