FASCINATING FALAËN

The village of Falaën, established on the gradients of a small canyon in the Condroz area, is said to be quite benchivating. The village is illustrated by a dense settlement in limestone houses mostly dating from the nineteenth century. Here, you will be astonished by the ruins of the Château de Montaigle, you can jump on the Molignée rail-bike for a fun ride, among the oldest buildings are the girls’ school and the former brewery. Falaën has a gorgeous variety of monumental, industrial, landscape, and cultural heritage.

Château de Montaigle

Tracked down in Falaën, at the convergence of the Flavion and Molignée, the ruins of the Montaigle castle will lure the poet in you. Montaigle offers a real journey through time. This old dwelling of the count in the 19th century, erected on a rocky incentive, is quite a romantic sight.

It’s a room for peace and spirituality.  Here there is a cafeteria, an antique shop, and a playground that will allow your family to have a promising time. Also, taste the outstanding cheese and beer made on-site.

After a tutored tour of the Abbey of Maredsous, you can go for a nature walk in the Molignée valley. Here, you can ideally appreciate the plethora of the place, by meeting the monks or by finding out their way of life, between a heritage of the past and modernity you will glance both in one place. Missing out Maredsous Abbey would be a great loss. 

The Molignée rail-bikes

Observe the pleasures of the draisine in the valley of the Molignée and the surroundings of the Abbey of Maredsous! The Molignée rail-bikes is an incredible ride along an ancient railway line between Falaën. Simply pedal as on a bike to wander along the rail track along the remarkable Molignées valley. Delight yourself to one or two hours of leisure by pedaling at your own pace.

The trail goes through the picturesque Molignée valley, between Falaën and Maredsous. You can select your routes from  Falaën – Maredsous that is 6 km and takes around 90 minutes, Warnant – Falaën that is 8 km and takes around 90 minutes. Warrant – Falaën – Maredsous and back takes 14 km and  180 minutes. You are free to choose according to your enthusiasm. The Draisines in Molignée are rail bikes perfect for a fun day out.

Château-Ferme de Falaën

Created in the last third of the 17th century, this architectural ensemble, previously a fortified seigneurial farm. Falaën Castle is a château-ferme in the village of Falaën, municipality of Onhaye, province of Namur, Belgium. Formerly encompassed by a moat, this enormous homogeneous courtyard made of coated bricks and limestone remains flanked by four square corner towers is organized around a large courtyard accessible by a porch tower.

This interior space unlocks onto the enormous residential building, redesigned in the 18th century to boost living comfort. To the left of the house, the storehouse proposes an outstanding volume crowned with a vast roof of slate croquettes. Since 1972, the ensemble shaped by the Castle and its immediate surroundings has been categorized as a historical monument. A place is sure to visit here.

Old Brewery

Placed perpendicular to the street, we uncover the former brewery in the village of Falaën. It is a huge building built around 1850-1860. It is distinguished by its lifted roof, providing a hop dryer. The hoist pulley is still existing. The Brou is a little stream whose method is somewhat vaulted, supplying the brewery with water.

Inside the building, the territory is encircled by brick lockers on doubleaux plummeting in the center on two octagonal pillars. The brewery discontinued all workouts during the interwar duration. The place is the perfect spot to admire the old brewing techniques. In a way round from where it started and where it ended. You will admire every part of this old brewery a sure place to visit.
