  • Millennium tower

The starting spot of this tour is marvellous millennium tower. Lifted on the Croix-Scaille plateau, the Millennium Tower, a stunning hourglass-shaped 60-metre-high belvedere, at 503m the tower marks the highest point in the province of Namur and the fifth-highest in Belgium. The stairs allow access to three observation platforms located respectively at 15, 30 and 45 meters. The site is open all year round except during hunting periods on this territory. The construction of this observation tower is the result of a cross-border project. This structure combined wood and steel and highlighted the qualities of Walloon the Douglas fir trees of the commune of Gedinne. The six trees with a circumference of three metres and a height of 45 metres had been felled in half a day. At the foot of the Tower, the Croix-Scaille tourist reception chalet offers maps, tourist information, ice creams, refreshments and games for children during the season. Motivated by history, this tower allows you to discover a fantastic landscape over a distance of more than 30 km with the help of an orientation table and a long view.

  • Walking Experience

You will love this walk very much and it will offer you plenty of “Wow!” moments.

It is a perfect mixture of the serene countryside and the gorgeous autumn colors made it an impressive stroll. You will find signs with the departure points of marked hiking trails. If you want to get as close as possible by car, you can also go to a small gravel parking lot in front of a house on rue Marotelle in Gedinne.

The route till La Fagne is swampy which can be found specifically on the Ardennes plateaus. Though the path is manageable for walking some tracts are moist and muddy. To cross them you can step on wooden footbridges because the surface is very spongy. For children it’s great. It gives a little more “adventure” side to the walk and the change of scenery is unconditional. You will extremely admire soaring to the roof of the Millennium Tower and watching the wonderful sights. This would be an elegant tract to revisit in Spring. You will surely wish to step back in your footsteps once you reach the endpoint.

  • La Fange de l’Abîme nature reserve

If there is one place in the Ardennes where you can go without ever getting bored, it is the La Croix Scaille plateau. Lost in the forest between Les Vieux Moulins de Thailand and the Tour du Millénaire, La Flange de l’Abîme is located on the Croix-Scaille plateau, a short distance from the French border. It is a national nature reserve extending over a little more than 8 hectares and made up of marshy meadows with moline, willula and birch groves, and heathland with residual heather. The site is renowned for being home to some of the most remarkable flora and fauna. It is a gently sloping north-facing slope occupied by a peaty expanse whose water flows towards a small tributary of the Marotelle stream, itself a tributary of the Rousseries stream.

The most interesting element is an extremely rare fern, the royal Osmond which forms, in the north-western part of the reserve, a dozen enormous turrets.
