Rocher du Bieley

A step in the heart of the forests of Elsenborn and Rocherarth will carry you to a unique point of view in Belgium: the Bieley rock. A fairy tale picture of a valley, glimpsing a small stream with a thousand reflections meandering through it. Rocher du Bieley is a 14.0-kilometre loop trail located near Büllingen, Liège, Belgium. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking.

Park along the N658 or leave from the village of Rocherarth. Enter the woods by the tarmac path starting to the right when you are back to the main road, quickly reach the first fork. Access the valley via the Wehtrieft and then follow a small stream which later empties into the Schwalmbach. Shortly after the cross, in the valley, go over a small wooden bridge.

From this point, see the hill in the distance, climb it to reach the top of Rocher du Bieley. Enjoy a break at a place called the Bieley rock which will give you an exceptional view of the valley. Turn right and follow the path for a little less than a kilometer, past a house and a small lake hard on your left and, after this, stay on the main path which goes to the right and to arrive at the Mathias cross. Then come back to the main trail. Dogs are also able to use this trail. Whatever the period or the weather, the incredible view at this level is worth a visit. 

Aiguilles de Chaleux

Considered one of the most beautiful cliffs in Belgium. The Aiguilles de Chaleux is a rocky massif in limestone, remarkable from the aesthetic, archaeological, geological, and botanical points of view. It is classified as an Exceptional Heritage of Wallonia. This rock planted in the water of the emblematic Lesse sees its colors vary from pearl grey to black.

It is also a delight for climbing enthusiasts. The access of the trail is from Namur- Houyet -Hulsonniaux, Via the N95 Dinant-Beauraing, after passing Falmagne, turn left onto the N 910 towards Hulsonniaux, continue by this road which descends towards the Lesse. When you reach the bridge, go down to the right and follow a small road for 3 km which runs along the left bank downstream to the rocks.

Then you will encounter some esthetic flora and breathtaking views of La Chandelle. While descending here, at low water, you can ford the river, or you can take the railway bridge. There are several signposted trails possible in this spot, except for the part  “La Chandelle”, where climbing is strictly prohibited. You can enjoy this beautiful spot at any time of the year.

Chapel of Try-au-Chêne

Somewhere between the agricultural fields around the Belgian village Bousval, you’ll find the Try-au-Chêne chapel – which is also known as the Notre-Dame de Hault chapel. The chapel is located at the corner of rue de la Chapelle du Try-au-Chêne and Chemin de la Chapelle du Try-au-Chêne, in the village of Bousval. It is very accessible and the road is even quite busy.

Take the 3rd on the right, at the exit of Tangissart, in front of n ° 26: rue du Try au Chêne in the direction of Bousval and Chapelle du Try au Chêne. The passage in front of the Try au Chêne chapel. Carry on. In the descent, on the right, Ferme de la Baillerie and then you will be on an amazing landscape with the most beautiful views.

Cycling tracks around the area are also available. The paths are easy and at the end, you will be gifted by some breathtaking scenes and an ancient chapel. The chapel creates a typical view which is very well known in the region, and very known with photographers.

Poilvache Castle

Located a few kilometers from Dinant, the ruins of Poilvache dominate the Meuse and the charming village of Houx. This landscape gives you a beautiful chance to stroll and admire the ruins accompanied by the panoramic views. The path is easy and safe best for a romantic stroll or a family walk.

You will be able to admire there, in particular, an impressive panorama on the Meuse between the bridge of Yvoir and the ruins of Crèvecoeur, the section of the wall of a large medieval house, a well, cisterns preserved in volume, 9 towers and other preserved remains. During your walk, you will see many specimens like black pines, larches, hawthorns, dogwoods, celandines.

Whether you are a botanist or a simple tourist, the ecological richness of the site can only delight you! The view from up there is amazing. However, you might be lost in the wilderness before you reach the castle. To make things easier, there is a shortcut on the highway just after the bridge. Try following it to save time.

Between Membre and Bohan, the famous Jambon viewpoint is one of the most prominent in the Ardennes of Namur. It is effortlessly accessible along the road to Gedinne, is with the Tombeau du Géant de Botassart one of the most justly famous in the Ardennes, one of those that must be known to seize the imposing majesty. Located in Calestienne at the confluence of the Eau Noire (Black Water) and Eau Blanche (White Water), the Roche à Lomme (Lomme Rock) is considered as one of the major limestone sites of Wallonia. The limestone peak, topped by a cross, dominates the region, offering a stunning view of the Viroin.

The rocky hillside on the Southside of the site features Mediterranean plants, highlighted by an abundance of boxwood. The most significant construction on the site was a fortified, square tower at the beginning of the Roman era. Strollers will truly admire the site. It’s moderately difficult depending upon the season you visit the place. The panoramic views will take your heart. La Roche à Lomme, known for its history and incredibly rich flora, is quite exceptional.
