This Wine was first found heated and spiced around the 2nd century by the Romans.
In the history mentioned by one of the books “The Forme of Cury”– a medieval English cookery book in 1390 mentioned the mulled wine in it. According to that book, it is the Wine ground together with spices like Cloves, star anise, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, long pepper, nutmeg, marjoram, galangal, and grain paradise and some sugar in it. This is how they made it in history.
It has evolved with the times. Well, when I am talking about Christmas I must mention that one of the Christmas town Alsace in France has given a lot of importance to mulled wine. Here it is called gluhwein (in German). Alsace is a German-speaking area.
