Every part of Belgium has much to offer. Verviers is no exception. This small province of Wallonia is a gem perfectly carved for your weekend trips. It has a superb museum of wool and water.  Verviers is to be named as Wallonia’s “Water Capital”.

It has the world’s best chocolate showroom dating back to the 20th century. The top most festival here is Fiesta City. The  most awaited music festival in verviers. Discover this incredible place and add a new chapter in your travelogue.

Address to reach the town : Boulevard des Gérardchamps 7c, 4800 Verviers

At the heart of verviers lies the knowledge centre Touristique Laine & Mode. Verviers’ “Aqualaine” association runs two attractions in the centre of the city, for water “aqua” and wool “laine”. This impressive three-part museum occupies a 1803 mill as an international wool-processing centre. It perfectly explains the discovery of the complexity of the wool process, the understanding of working life through time, and also of other raw materials.

There is a permanent exhibition of “From thread to fashion”. It is a multisensory, recreating the sights, sounds and smells of a mill in Verviers’ industrial heyday. All in a fun and well-documented way in a remarkable setting. The exposed machines are remarkably in good condition and their functions pretty well described. It’s a place that deserves a visit without hurry. Bravo!

La Chocolaterie Darcis is a perfect “Bean to Bar” establishment for the chocoholics. One of Belgium’s foremost chocolatiers has turned his modern factory into a superb interactive museum experience.

An interesting and beautifully decorated museum about the history of chocolate. Travel to the origins of chocolate as you weave through the hallways of Mayan temple and finally immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the first chocolate shops at the beginning of the 20th century. At the beginning you will receive an audio device that will guide you during the further visit. Before the visit, you will be given three small chocolates to taste at the tasting places in the museum. But when you leave this museum, you have a large choice of macaroons, pastries and chocolates.

A sure to visit place.

Parc de Séroule is a pleasant place where it is possible to take beautiful walks. It’s located just a few minutes away from downtown Verviers. It’s the last remnant of a large 17th century agricultural estate. Later the castle and the park became a boarding school for girls. Now, the area is open to the public. The  green oasis in the middle of the city. It’s well restored and  just perfect for leisurely strolls in the woods accompanied by ponds, grassland, orchards and a little brook rolling landscape that is just waiting to be discovered. A magnificent park which guarantee a refuge for flora and fauna.

  • Musée des Beaux-Arts et de la Céramique

Musée des Beaux-Arts et de la Céramique is a little pearl. If you can catch it open, pop in to see this small but high-quality collection of 14th- to 19th-century and early 20th-century industrialists bequeathed invaluable collections of paintings, but the museum shines brightest for the ceramics they donated. The museum exhibits a good idea to mix modern art and magnificent old collections.

Entry is free to all on weekends. The Jean Lequeu exhibition is surprising to see an  absolutely exceptional place in the heart of Verviers.

Looking for a unique day out? Come and see the lake Gileppe dam, a masterpiece of structural engineering. The Gileppe dam is one of the oldest in Europe. It was built in 1869 on the request of wool traders from Verviers. You can take a lovely walk around the lake Gileppe to relax and feel in harmony with nature.

The dam itself can be visited, it’s a wonderful opportunity to see how it works from the inside. There’s also a 77-metre panoramic tower, for enchanting vistas over the dam, reservoir and the Hertogenwald forest. Highly recommended!

It’s time to move on the beats of music. Verviers becomes one big music festival with over 60 bands performing on four stages, and all completely for free. FiestaCity’s five stages are right in the middle of the city and books a broad spectrum of artists, counting national and international stars, famous classic acts, and fresh, up-and-coming talent.

What are you still waiting for? It’s only three days to flow on the rhythms of music and get your self charge. Hurry!
