Fondry Des Chiens

The Fondry des Chiens curled up in the Viroin-Hermeton natural park near Viroinval, is a distinctive, protected site in Belgium. It is an enormous sinkhole in the Viroin Valley. With its unique fauna and flora, this natural monument, also known as the Belgian Grand Canyon. The Fondry des Chiens is a doline, a karst phenomenon, known for its limestone layers. There is a large limestone grassland around the doline. Limestone grasslands are one of the few places where wild male orchids grow in Belgium.

This geological curiosity is the result of rainfall eroding the local limestone for millions of years. Accessible all year. Entry is free.
