The word was first found in French in 1805, and in 1605 in Lorrain Patois. It is also connected to Belgium somehow. Lorraine is a place in France. Lorrain is the language spoken by the people of this region and also in Alsace and Gaume in Belgium.
So somehow I found the connection of the Quiche to Belgium .
Though English Cuisine is famous for Pastry where they filled it with cream and eggs
Here I am sharing the recipe for Traditional Vegetarian Quiche using Spinach. You can also make Mini Quiche as a starter and also with something sweet as a dessert.
Ingredients :
for the Base /crust /tart
- 4/5 cup of Refined Flour
- 2/5 cup butter cubes(not melted)
- pinch of salt
- Coldwater to form the dough
- Tool required – Tart mould or Pie mould
For the Stuffing
- Butter
- 3 cups of blenched and chopped spinach
- onions small chopped
- green chillies
- garlic
- milk
- fresh cream
- cheese cream
- grated cheese
- oregano
- salt as per your requirement
Procedure
For the Crust :
- Take a big bowl to make the dough.
- Sieve the flour add butter and salt to it.
- Mix it with your fingertips, try to avoid using your palm.
- you will need around 2 tbsp of cold/chilled water to make the dough
- Roll out the Dough make it thin (not too thick and not too thin )
- Take the mould and grease it with butter properly.
- Arrange the roll out dough on the tart.
- press it properly and remove extra from the edges.
- Prick it with the fork on the bottom and the sides.
- Bake it in a preheated oven for around 15 mins. preheated oven at 200 degrees.
- Take out from the oven and let it cool, don’t remove it from the mould.
For Stuffing :
- Heat a pan add butter in the pan.
- Add chillies, garlic saute for a min
- Add Onions and saute until it turns golden.
- Add Spinach and cook it well, add salt to it
- Take out the mixture in a bowl and let it cool
- Add fresh cream, cream cheese and milk to the mixture and also oregano
- Pour the mixture in the crust
- Tap it well
- Sprinkle grated cheese over it
- Bake it in the preheated oven for around 10 mins.
Take out from the oven and serve it , remove it from the mould and serve it hot .
Tip :Most important to use the chilled water
Don’t forget to prick the crust
Don’t make loose dough
Another option –
you can also use other vegetables like bell peppers ,corns ,zucchini etc and prepare Vegetable Quiche.
