Belgium is one of the extensively prominent gateways for adventure lovers who love to walk next to the water too. The Belgian part from walking along through expanding leafy forests, and mountainous hillsides, and beautiful water with a valley along with some of the most picturesque villages and towns in between. It will prove the perfect place to disconnect. It’s amazing how quickly you will find immersed in nature a short distance only from big cities. If you happen to be here, make sure you follow one of these magical hiking routes to its most scenic parts. Clear your agenda and get your walking boots on!

Spotting Watermills On The Kleine Nete

Going for a walk on a warm sunny day has a different amusement. While walking in this heating time water that drizzles from a wheel has a more soothing effect. For a wonderful and active walk, you can go to the Watermill of Grobbendonk where the Kleine Nete and Aa merge. On a bright beautiful day, the path here is stunning and as you move more into the summer months they will probably get better and more colourful. There is an old water mill on-site with at certain parts of the day they turn on and show you how the mill works.

The mill is very delightful and is relatively big compared to other National Trust properties. The walks around the garden are short and long and there is a map which tells you how long it takes to walk around each one. Some of the paths are flat concrete and other paths pass through the forests and have wood chipping paths so some access is very good for wheelchairs. This would be a very good place for a picnic on a sunny day as there are lots of grass areas to sit down and use as the onsite restaurant is good. Here you can easily map out your walk along the Kleine Nete. So walkers start exploring.

Tracks On The Leie

Take a historical stroll along the water. Spectacular towns such as Sint-Martens-Latem, Bachten-Maria-Leerne, or the stately castle of Ooidonk laid closely on the winding Leie just in the exterior of Ghent offers a wonderful path for strollers. This is a beautiful part of Ghent with incredible architecture on both sides of the river. A place of an inexhaustible source of inspiration for artists at the beginning of the twentieth century.

You can have a 9km walk starting point of the walking route from Palepelstraat, 9830 Sint-Martens-Latem. The canals are flanked by promenades and historic buildings. It is a good place to take a stroll and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of Ghent. The views at night are particularly enchanting. There are lots of restaurants to stop and have a drink. Also, boat tours are available.

Walk-In De Blankaart

In the marshy grasslands and hay meadows of the Yser Valley, there is an incredible nature reserve around the pond De Blankaart, near Diksmuide which is simply perfect for a wonderful walk. Here you walk through the IJzer breken a plain of low-lying pastures. The perfect place for a nature walk. The route commences from the De Blankaart castle and leads you through the winter bed of the Yser river.

It’s a 17.5 kilometer moderately trafficked loop trail. The return road goes via the de Rhille district and the nature reserve. features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips. This place is an actual bird paradise, where unique species from all over Europe come to breed. The best part of the tour is whisper boats that can be truly enchanting. 

Walk in the Hoëgne Valley

Do you want to resist the hustle and bustle of the Ninglinspo? Then we have the perfect walk for you! The wonderful valley of the Hoëgne is half an hour’s drive from the Ninglinspo and is an excellent place for an unforgettable hike, a romantic picnic, or some splashing water adventure. From a small stream in the Fagnes, the Hoëgne river turns into a crazy, glorious, and romantic river.

You will explore this 11 km, signed walk following its fascinating meanders. The starting point is the parking in Roquez 49 Jalhay. You will enjoy stunning views during your hike along the Hoëgne river and also the ancient “Pont de la Becquee”. This bridge is part of the Gallo-Roman road “La Vecquée” which runs through the Ardennes and ends at Baraque Michel. You are going to have an amazing experience on this walk.

Walk around the Lake of Nisramont

Anyone who likes sports walks and hiking in nature will love this! This 14 km loop around the lake of Nisramont, right in the heart of the Ardennes is an excellent walk.

Here, you will experience climbs, challenges of all kinds and enjoy impressive views of the lake and its surroundings. This exceptional hike follows the banks of the lake of Nisramont. Starting from the Nisramont dam this trail will give you a glimpse of the confluence of the two Ourthe rivers along with beavers, cormorants, and kingfishers. A walk by the Château de Harzé

This challenging walk through woodlands and villages will give you an incredible glimpse of the region of Aywaille. From the heights of the village of Harzé, you will wander towards the Saint Roch woodlands from there, beginning in the Ardenne. Here you will encounter Château de Harzé. This 17th-century castle is settled down in a marvelous area surrounded by nature.

This walk is also a relic of the iron industry that had much weight here in the 16th century that had many forges and furnaces built along streams and rivers. Families, couples, friends will find there a peaceful break with a lot of activities along with walking such as e-bike, bakery museum, mountain bike, kayak and many more.
